Another truck-mounted weapon system, the Katyusha is an old weapon design dating from before Great World War 2. The system has been adopted for today's warfare to overcome restrictions imposed upon the Soviet artillery by the limitation of gun caliber and the prohibition of mobile cruise missiles. The Katyusha is nothing more than yet another truck design, this time with multiple rocket launching racks mounted on the back. The rockets are of small caliber and unguided, but they are cheap and the weapon system rapid-fires large salvos of them. The system is effective against bunched-up infantry and wooden structures, but the basic high-explosive warheads of the missiles, coupled with their low accuracy, will make it fail against heavy armor or mobile targets.
