With the introduction of the heavier battleship, the Cruisers from Great World War II were considered unsuited for the role they were originally intended for: their guns had less firepower than the guns of the battleship, while not having greater range, and the ship's lesser armor also made it vulnerable to submarines and enemy battleships. Therefore, the remaining Cruisers were ordered back for a little refitting: the 8 inch gun turrets were replaced by Cruise Missile launchers for greater range and accuracy, though for less firepower. The resulting Cruisers were re-designated "CG" and now form an important part of the Allied Navy.
